Jian Rzeszewicz
Hello! My name is Jian Rzeszewicz and I'm just a simple 20-year- old college student in the rainy state of Washington trying to find her niche in the world.
I was adopted at 5 months old from Zhan-Jiang, in the southern Guangdong Province. I have always felt a deep connection with my Chinese origins and try to honor where I came from through my support for the foster/adopted community of the United States.
I love speaking on panels about adoption to help parents wanting to adopt internationally understand the internal struggles of an adopted child. At my university, I have created a club dedicated to helping those in the foster community and edifying the student body about what it’s like to be adopted and why it’s important for people to know.
I have always wished that I could find out about my birth parents and my own personal story, but I decide to channel that regret of never knowing into helping others who are going through the same struggle.
However, I have been fortunate enough to meet the woman who took care of me in the orphanage, 15 years after my adoption! I believe that every child who has been adopted deserves a chance to express their story and learn from each other, so I hope whoever listens to mine will take a part of it with them and learn more about themselves! Thank you for listening!
Jian was interviewed via Skype on Dec. 5, 2015.
